Laptop OS?

Postby gridlox on Mon Sep 22, 2008 1:29 am

What OS are you running on your laptop?

I've been studying up to purchase a laptop.
I've heard bad things through the sign related graphic design industry about Vista. But, it seems that most "affordable" (ie. - Under $1000) laptops are, for the most part, running it. Most of the bad stuff that I am getting is that Vista doesn't offer driver support for a "lot" of the older printing equipment that is out there. But since I won't be using the laptop for that much graphic design, I'm wondering if I should be worried at all about getting a laptop with Vista.

What's your opinion?

as of right now i say NO to VISTA :D the wifes laptop has it on it and it does not play well with others, it does not like our home network or the network printer or the NAS. there are a lot of new notebooks out there with XP Pro on them which i like very well and is much more user friendly outside of running a 64 bit processor and 3.12 gig of memory XP works for me for now  i'll give Vista another year or so so MS can do a service pack or 2 to fix the stuff they knew was wrong with it when they released it .

Guy at Computer Central in Summerville said part of the problem with Vista is not enough memory. He said 1GB should be the minimum to run Vista. That was causing a lot of performance issues. We downloaded SP1 at Rhinehart and it helped a lot but is still flaky compared to XP.
