Street Atlas USA 2009 and LT-40 review

Postby sledgehampster on Mon Jan 26, 2009 10:16 am

Just got my copy of DeLorme Street Atlas USA 2009 with the LT-40 GPS and thought I would share my thoughts.

The software is pretty much the same as SA 2008 except for the addition of a 3-D Nav Mode. There is a road near Subligna with a bridge out that has been fixed for more than 3 years.

The new 3-D Nav Mode is NOT ready for prime time. The car icon is almost cartoonish and the Nav Bar at the bottom of the screen is WAY too big. You can change the screen resolution to help this (on most computers) but it is not a complete fix.

The text in 3-D mode is in 2-D so it is flat and is almost unreadable most of the time. To view maps in 3-D maps I will view them on my Garmin Nuvi.

According to the DeLorme forums it will take more than a Service Pack to fix the issues mentioned. Maybe they will get these items fixed in Street Atlas USA 2010.

As far as the LT-40 is concerned it is great! It locked on in less than 1 minute after pressing the Start GPS button.
( To lock on to the satellites quicker always use the Find Tab go to the city you are in then click on the GPS Tab. Click on the Turn on/off various GPS features icon and an OPTIONS window will open. Click on the Use Map Center button then click Apply then on OK.)

Will report more as I use it. sledgehampster
