GeoBuddy

I used it a long ago, before TopoGrafix took over, when it was still Version 1. It looks to have been upgraded significantly since then.
If I remember correctly it was adequate for what it was then. Should be leaps and bounds better now sir.

Might be worth a download and a test drive...

software

Postby johnnie on Sun Nov 25, 2007 11:26 am

I'm just looking around for a little bit of help in the software dept.
Everything seems to be like a corvett sports car to me.
All i need is a bicycle, I am walking now. I print out a cache page and go to the cache area and load the coords in my gps and then find it and go home.
I hate it sometimes when I get home from a fifty mile single cache hunt and see that I passed a real good geocache, and did not know it.

Does Garmin offer any waypoint management software for their units? I "speak" Magellan so I am unsure of Garmin's offerings.
I know Magellan had MapSend Manager then MapSend Lite Beta and now they have VantagePoint

Johnnie -

If you're looking for cheap and easy then EasyGPS is a good choice. I use ExpertGPS with my Magellan but got into it when it was just around $20; I understand that it is close to $70 now.

I primarily use a combination of GSAK and DeLorme Topo USA. With GSAK I can custom build my waypoint names and other info (including terrain, difficulty, GC code, name, hints & description) into a GPX file that Topo USA will import. In Topo USA I can create a road route from wherever to wherever and search for objects along the route. Those objects just happen to be caches in my case. I then can print out a list of the caches I'll get close to (the printout tells me how far off my route the cache is and in what direction) as well as the driving directions. As I use Topo USA with my PN20 I can upload the route as well as the caches to it.

Right now the only way for me to upload caches to my PN20 is with Topo USA but I understand that there are some third party folks working on upgrading their softwares to be compatible with the PN20; DeLorme released the tech stuff so they could do that.

So, I use ExpertGPS (and sometimes EasyGPS) on my Magellans and GSAK and Topo USA with my PN20.

Sorry if I confused the issue.

Geobuddy is having a Holiday Sale!

So if you wanted to try it out it is HALF PRICE right now.

You can pick it up for $35, which I think is right in line with the cost of GSAK.
